The purpose of art is to lay bare the questions that have been hidden by the answers."

From June 26 to November 15, 2025, the Real Academia de España en Roma presents the exhibition Processi 152, curated by Caterina Borelli and Anna Cestelli Guidi. The exhibition showcases projects by twenty grant holders from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, all of whom have been in residence at the Real Academia de España en Roma during the 2024–2025 academic year.

The exhibition, which stems from the dialogue and exchange between the curators and the resident artists, takes its title Processi to highlight the traces that connect the various expressions of an ongoing artistic experimentation—often developed and shared among the residents during their stay. Rather than marking the conclusion of a project, the exhibition serves as an opportunity to reflect a shared experience and to open up new possibilities for future reflection and research.

Despite its linguistic and conceptual diversity, the exhibition is conceived as a pathway that emphasizes the connections among the works, which in turn influence and contaminate one another, expanding into both public and private spaces of the Academy, and reaching outward to engage with the cultural, historical, and urban layers of the city.

As the curators explain:
“Research into visual devices, play, and fantastical or even futuristic imaginaries connects with theoretical visual essays and socio-political investigations, as well as with interventions in the urban space and more formalist practices concerning materials and the architecture of the city. Cinematic imagination, in particular, characterizes many of the works on display, presented as moving image pieces that blend narrative and experimentation.”

Each project reflects a unique perspective and a singular language, yet they all share a specific focus on space—visual, social, architectural, cultural, and temporal. The works include projections (video, Super8, and 16mm), installations, sound pieces, and performative actions that break away from traditional two-dimensionality, often forming immersive environments.

Today, the program welcomes citizens of the European Union (including Italians) and of Latin America, reaffirming its role as a cultural diplomacy institution for Spain, promoting dialogue between the Old Continent and Latin America.
